Meeting after meeting after meeting... The extra two hours of sleep kindly provided by setting the clocks to UTC were highly appreciated – though most people appeared to be extra hungry when it was time for breakfast.
No internet. No Spotify. No Facebook. No paying bills on internet banking. No Wikipedia. No Google. No newspapers. No television. How is that for a change huh? Want to try that for seven weeks at home?

Toolbox talks next led by First Officer (second-in-command) to identify potential risks associated with our sampling work and how to avoid putting ourselves in danger or ruining our equipment. First about the Multicorer and the Rumohr corer, both of which we will use to retrieve sediment samples (cores) from the seafloor. All working steps were discussed in detail with the help of First Officer’s great drawings. The same procedure was followed for the different water sampling equipment CTD-Rosette and Go-Flo. As usual the crew was extremely helpful and engaged.
They found solutions for everything. Tomorrow all this theory will be put into practice.

Our meeting schedule for today was:

0745 – Breakfast

0900 – Water column biogeochemistry meeting

1000 – IT meeting

1100 – Toolbox talk: Multicorer

1145 – Lunch

1300 – Toolbox talk: Rumohr corer

After a sunny windy morning, suddenly the horizon disappeared in a cloud and it started raining. The waves got noticeably higher as well, but so far we have heard nothing about anyone experiencing sea sickness. The Barents Sea has been really calm and welcoming!
